Celebrating Bastille Day together in 2024 [fr]

This year, France’s national day is a two-fold celebration: the 80th anniversary of France’s liberation and the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Let the flags fly!

When we think of 14 July, we generally think of the storming of the Bastille in 1789, and “Bastille Day” as many countries call it. For the French, 14 July is an opportunity to come together and celebrate.

This year, the traditional military parade in Paris will celebrate Allied heroes and all those who helped restore liberty and peace in our country. This theme signals a renewal of France’s commitment to international cooperation and the universal values of liberty, equality and fraternity.

The military parade will culminate in the launch of the Olympic torch relay in the Paris region. The torch will be carried to the foot of the presidential stand by Colonel Thibault Vallette, who won a gold medal at the Rio Games in 2016.

This 14 July will be an original celebration, combining past and present to together write a new page in our national history. On this occasion, we wish all French people and all those who love France a happy Bastille Day.
